After careful measuring,
Rich cut out the firewall where it will be recessed. |
Rich checks the position
of the recessed firewall. |
Based on Rich’s burgundy-cream color scheme on the prototype wheels, Shannon visualizes the firewall checkerboard pattern. |
Rich preps for new quarter
glass
and seals. |
Using our own 48-704220-S bonded quarter window
seals, the windows fit
and sealed like new. |
The firewall came out slick,
as it’s ready for finishing touches with something
cool by Don Tippit. |
Gino, our rubber molding and bonding specialist first treated the aged interior metal panels with Rust Mort then coated them with POR 15 Sealer, products available from most automotive paint suppliers. |
The original wood floor supports are in great shape, but they'll be replaced after Rich installs steel floor patch panels. |
We lucked-out and found
this beautiful, original ’35 Grille while in Louisville last year. The fact that it’s weathered, dinged and far from perfect makes it ideal for Project ‘35. |
Drake’s own ’40 dash pane
l (01A-304-C) needed only
minor modifications to install. |
After the slight modifications for fitting, the ’40 dash
panel was custom painted
by Don Tippit. |
Our 1940 Dash Panel with air conditioning outlets, part number: 01A-304-C received a few easy modifications near the windshield post area. Don Tippit did the awesome VonDutch style designs |
Drake’s ’40 dash instrument panel (01A-9271-SR1) was fitted with our black face VDO instrument kit (VDO-600-925). |
Our freshly rebuilt Ford AOD
Tranny is just itchin’ to go with
our shifter kit (ATS6AODAN).
The rebuild cost - $1200. |
Amazingly, Gino also discovered the coupe's original Ford tool kit still stuffed in a cranny of the trunk area, as Shannon and Rich are seen examining these rareties that were found in the original rubberized canvas tote bag. |
The package tray and metal supports were replaced as the interior starts taking
shape.

.
The roof is marked for installing the retractable top panel.

Bent oak bows will support the
rooffiller for now, as a complex retractable unit is planned.

Our SHOK-SHIMS were used atop the frame at all body mount bolt locations and
made a huge difference in providing a smooth, quiet ride with no related
squeeks. 25 piece kits are available in various thicknesses as follows;
BD-5001-A (1/8"), BD-5001-B (3/16"), BD-5001-C (1/4"), BD-5001-D (5/16") and
BD-5001-E (3/8"). We also offer a 50 piece SHOK-SHIMS Variety Pack with 10 of
each thickness, part number BD-5001-K. |
Our Hood & Radiator Support Kit, part number: 40-8133-SK was
a natural offering great function and contrast. |
The cool, retro door signs are
hand painted by Don Tippit.

Frank designs a roof filler panel just days before the coupe departed for the NSRA Nats in Louisville, Kentucky. |
The Air Conditioning System was supplied by Vintage Air. The components and
wiring are all top grade stuff and well worth the time installing, as a cool
cockpit is a must for our summer time excursions. |
The foil-faced rubber insulation kit from Quiet Ride was correctly pre-cut,
complete and easy to install. We also used some of our own similar
foil-face/rubber insulation sheeting in odd-ball nooks and crannies; part number
B-5010-F which comes in bulk 36" x 50" sheets. |
The interior was insulated using a very cool, pre-formed kit from the fine folks
at Quiet Ride. |
We chose a cool split bench seat with center armrests and adjustable mounts available from Wiseguys, part number UF/V116. |
We modified the original headlight buckets to sit lower when mounted which
required removing the rivets which attach the mounting cup then re-attaching the
cup with 1/4" spacers between the bucket and cup. We used standard machine
screws and nylock nuts inside, as the headlight stands were also modified by
removing material around the mounting hole allowing the cups to protrude down
into the stand. A slight but noticable difference. |
Drake's own Halogen Headlight Reflector Kit was a must for adding modern, bright
Halogen candle power,
part number: 48-13027-QK12. We offer 4 different kits
serving 1932-1939 Ford cars and pickups. |
